AKCP, the world’s oldest and largest supplier of networked wired and wireless sensor solutions announces support of the COVID-19 Vaccination Program in the Philippines.
As the worldwide COVID-19 vaccination program are underway, AKCP has stepped in to assist the Department of Health (DOH) in the city of Angeles, Pampanga, Philippines. The first delivery of 2,000 vaccines arrived in early March to begin vaccinating front liners. The AstraZeneca vaccine requires storage at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C.
“With the absence of a monitoring system, the hospital staff is manually taking temperature checks every 4 hours and plotting them on a chart,” said Dr. Froilan Canlas, Officer in Charge of the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Hospital in Angeles City.
With the addition of the AKCP wireless remote monitoring system, the hospital staff can now accurately track the storage temperature and receive alerts when the temperature is outside of required parameters.
Wireless Tunnel™ NIST3 Sensor
The AKCP NIST3 Wireless Tunnel Temperature sensor was installed in the medical refrigerator at the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Hospital in Angeles City, Pampanga. The NIST3 sensor features 3x calibrated NIST traceable temperature sensors. The values are averaged and checked against each other for calibration. Sensor values are ignored if out of calibration. The temperature sensor is enclosed in a jar of glycol to act as a temperature buffer and avoid false alarms when air temperature fluctuates as vaccines are removed.
The sensor communicates with the AKCP Wireless Tunnel Gateway (WTG). Data is logged on the WTG for local access and shared to the AKCP Pharma-Mon cloud server for remote monitoring. As the vaccine rollout accelerates to the local health clinics, vaccines will be transported in portable coolers. These passively cooled containers are also monitored from the Pharma-Mon cloud server
Wireless Tunnel™ Technology
AKCP has developed their Wireless Tunnel technology based on LoRa chirp spread spectrum technology. Its low power means long battery life coupled with an excellent signal range. The NIST3 sensor was easily able to reach from inside the medical refrigerator to the WTG installed in a neighboring room.
The AKCP Wireless Tunnel vaccine monitoring system is available now. Contact [email protected] for more details.
